Very nice Apt. and Location - My November 2015 Rio visit.
I have rented from David over a number of years and have always received great service and support from him, my last trip staying in "Carla's Place" apt. in NOV 2015 was no exception. David's driver Bruno (who I have used for years) punctually met and picked me up at the GIG airport as usual with my name on a sign, he also drove me back to GIG on my departure. David's Agent Peter met me at the Apartment. The apartment is on an upper floor (the 9th floor I think) at the end of the hallway from the elevator, on the backside of the building, away from the street traffic, so it is nice, private and quiet. It is nicely furnished with 2 comfortable bedrooms with 3 window A/C units, one in each room, a nice full size bathroom/ shower combo (by both Rio and American standards), a nice living room, and well furnished kitchen-bar set up with a full sized refrigerator (even had a Champagne bucket & glasses!). Up the wrought iron spiral staircase is a 3rd penthouse bedroom, but it is locked up for the owner's use only. It is in an Apart-Hotel style building with an excellent 24/7 hour doorman staff, with hotel front desk style service. The doormen were great to me, and very helpful on many occasions for directions, restaurant suggestions, needed services, like taxis etc., only one spoke useful English though. Guests were no problem. On the 4th floor there a nice swimming pool (closes at 10 PM) great for after the beach with showers to wash off the sand, cold water cooler, good Wifi access at the pool and in the Apt., pool security cameras etc. There is a common gym area by the pool, with a sauna, but the universal weight tower was missing the weight plates pin, the treadmill and bike were not working when I was there, no free weights there to speak of so gym not of much use - the hotel could improve on that. I always had the pool to myself - so it was like having a private pool! There is also a parking garage if you rent a car, motor bike or bicycle, and excellent maid service with great friendly maids. There are plenty of good restaurants next door, a Sucos stand and a laundry right there. There was basic cable TV service, but Portuguese language channels only, but then who watches TV when on vacation in Rio? Minor issue, I actually enjoyed NOT watching TV for a change! One of the things that makes this Apartment great in my opinion is the location. It is in Ipanema, but very near Copa, near the central Posto 7 and 8, Aproador beach area. The Gen. Osario Metro Station entrance and Park with a BikeRio bike rental station and many different Park activities such as the farmers market, flea market, outdoor dining etc., are all right outside the front door. There is a convenient Cambio/ Travel Agency next door for exchanging currency. There is a large 24 hour Zona Sul Grocery store just across from the park. The beach is an easy 5 minute walk away, Copacabana is also an easy walk or bike ride away. A major central bus stops are across the street and around the Gen Osario Park. Peter, the helpful apartment agent, is from Sweden and speaks excellent English. He met me at the Apt. when I first checked in and showed me how everything works, including getting the Wi-Fi set up on my devices, a SIM chip for my phone etc. Peter went way above and beyond, and helped me out on many occasions when I needed it, always available by phone, he checked in with me by cell phone many times to see how I was doing, and offer suggestions. With Peter I pre-arranged and bought a copy of the excellent "Rio for Partiers" guide he offers, and delivered when I checked in, it is full of useful info, with the good places to go, and things to do. Peter also offers tours for things like Christ Statue, Soccer games, Samba lessons, Brazilian Cooking etc. etc. - I did the Samba lessons with a field trip included to the Scenarium for dinner, and to try out my Samba - great place, must-see and experience, highly recommended. I highly recommend David's Apartment service, he aims to please, and his "Carla's Place" Apt. was great, as was Peter his Rio agent, and Bruno the driver. I intend to return do all that again, just as soon as possible in 2016 on my next trip down to Rio! Joe Beall - Atlanta GA
